WRAP calls on government to release survey results immediately
WRAP understands that the Meander Valley Council has written to the Attorney-General about the postal survey expressing its concern that steps have been taken "...to ensure full coverage of the municipality".
"It has been abundantly clear to everyone involved since the postal survey was announced in December last year, that the Government was not going to send surveys to everyone in the municipality. This is not earthshattering news, for the Council or anyone else for that matter."
For supporters of the prison and the Council to entreat the Minister now to ensure everyone in the municipality receives a survey is utterly disingenuous.
"WRAP strongly suspects that the survey has not panned out in the way that supporters of the prison at Westbury had hoped".
"There should be no scope for a 're-run' of the survey. The survey results need to be immediately released so that the community can see the real reason why proponents for the prison are only now calling for it to be set aside."
